Xbox NXE Update Causing Problems

You weren't the only one, I installed Fable II to the HDD and kept looking at the console wondering why it was silent.

Can't say I ever really noticed/cared about the noise but it's nice not to have it.

Riyad's avatar really reminded me of Tim Robbins. I like the update but it does occasionally freeze for a few too many seconds.

Yes the HD installs is the best feature for me it makes a world of difference I bought an Elite earlier this year to try and reduce the noise problem which for me has always been an issue compared to the PS3 quite running noise level.

As for the interface I actually prefer the old one and can well do without cutesy avatars.

What is this obsession with the sims culture?

The new HD installs have more than HALVED load times in fable 2 :)
never really noticed the spinning disk noise on my new elite console but its nice to give the disk drive a rest :)

Only had minor marketplace issues, couldnt download the "optional media update" last nigt but it worked ok this morning :)

It's a shame that you still need the disc to actually play a game, even if it is installed on the hard drive.

I know Microsoft would obviously be concened about people installing games, then taking them back to shop once on their xbox.. but surely for us live users to have the best experience possible they should work out how to somehow code each DVD and register it on xbox live when installed.

I want to be able to go from game to game while in a party with mates without having to change discs.

Overall Im happy with the update, I havent experienced any problems using it so far. It was cool making my own avatar, Im looking forward to dressing him up in better clothes.. maybe in a Chelsea kit (maybe FIFA will do that) or in army gear like in Call of Duty :)

NXE working great for me. NetFlix is nice, not great, but nice. I certainly prefer the interface to the old one and well as said, the installs to the HDD are great!

I think it's grat. For me the winning feature is the ability to flick between arcade games without having to go via the dashboard.

The avatars are the perfect mix of wii like and PS3 home like, although I hope for Microsoft's sake thet we get a lot more options sharpish. and it better not be a case of having to pay for bits of clothing. That'll be worse than Horse Armour!

I like the idea of extra clothes with games, perhaps they come free with the game but you can buy them separate. The idea of putting the disk in once a week is also good, maybe once every 3 days would work better to stop friends passing games between them a little better :)

Im only new to the XBOX360 (have it less than a week). I am used to the nearly silent Wii. Playing a game on the xbox360 was crazy loud. I cant believe people put up with for so long.

The new interface is much needed. I like the avatars (yes Alex, you can see Micro$oft adding a pay for new clothes spinner). Nicer than the cartoon Mii's from the Wii. But, I guess Nintendo were the innovators.

I have Fable 2 & COD5. Great feature being able to copy to hard drive (seen as I got the elite one with 120 gig on it :). My pleasant enthusiasm was let down by the "insert cd" message. Fable 2 loads quicker when travelling to different areas :D

Downloaded and installed without any problems.

I think the installing to hard drive is a stepping stone to to buying full priced games on market place ala live arcade.
The infrastucture is there to download 7gb HD films. Now the drive space is there to install games too.

I do like the look of the new interface (though I haven't downloaded it yet) and if Microsoft had released this just a month earlier I too would've been highlighting the HD installs as a major point. However, my noisey 360 Elite got the RROD 3 weeks ago (boo). Thankfully its all fixed now but strangely the 360 is now VERY quiet. Not at my Wii's levels but certainly not much louder than my PS3 even when playing HD DVDs.

I can only guess why this would be the case and Im 99% sure it isn't my imagination. Anyway...

Well I sent my NXE-bricked Elite back last night with UPS and the people at the depot guessed I was sending back an Xbox before they even saw the box, apparently they're still shipping back several each week, and thats just from one depot in Exeter!

Had the same PeteT. One look at the box and they guessed straight away what it was!

@TL1210 @Hugo @Keldon I think a random chance (1 in 5 maybe?) each time you play the game would be better & then (if you fail to put the disk in) it will ask you every time until you do. If there is a deterministic approach (i.e. every n days) then swapping etc would likely be rife.

NXE worked fine for me, overall pretty good despite a few niggles. haven't tried out hard disk installs yet though.
i do think that it makes sense to have to still have the disk in when you play an installed game, i know that it is different to a PC as you aren't sitting within arm's reach of the console at all times and have to actually walk over to it to swap out media but the fewer chances people have to easily circumvent copy-protection and commit acts of piracy, the less reason developers and manufacturers have to shaft normal consumers with ill-conceived DRM and over inflated prices. I'd rather have to prove i have a disc than not be able to swap and borrow games because they have to be authorised on a per-console basis or some such other nonsense.

Xbox Live worked fine prior to NXE - now, I can't login anymore, get a prompt to download an update from XBL - when I hit yes, it just says could not download update, check network settings etc... Now I have NO XBL cos I can't login.
NXE was a monumental failure for me, online gaming was a reason why I got the 360 in the first place, now I can't do that now. MS you suck, the 360 sucks. I'm putting mine up for sale, should have got a PS3 in the first place...ah well live and learn.

I personally believe that this update has brought XBL into a whole new dimension, the features are awesome and unrivalled, plus navigation is seamless. For me, the only letdown is those Avatars, although cute, they're not really to anyone's taste and they really feel like a "Mii" rip off. The HDD installs make all the difference as well, cuts the loading times right down not to mention that the "take off" noise impression has now vanished. Microsoft always sucked, NXE rocks, 360 rocks, I am keeping mine!

@nazidk12 I think that is a total overreaction mate. Would you immediately flog your car the first time it breaks down? Or sell your house when the boiler goes pop?
