Humax Foxsat-HDR Freesat+ PVR Launches

Oh yes. I have one of these on pre-order. I'm just waiting for another LNB to be installed so I can record two programs at once.

The fact that Humax/BBC have knobbled the HD Output via component on Freesat kills this stone dead for me :( I was really looking forward to some Hi-Def F1 action from the BBC next year as well.
Ho hum.

I'm really looking forward to reading a review for this device. I'm rather keen to add it to my home setup if it's any good!

Anything to get away from SKY, this is the future let it open up some competition.
As for the component problems, i wouldnt loose sleep over it, as most people will just be using hdmi. Even on the sky boxes you couldnt out put to disk anything but 4:3 as it had something in place to stop you ripping off HD at 16:9

Just think no more contracts, no tie in, record and watch what you want. Im getting one !!!!!

Worse though (last I looked) is that the BBC (for whatever technical/business/other reason) have opted to have the flag PERMANENTLY switched on for BBC HD (not sure what ITV is doing) - I could understand (grudgingly) if the programme producer insisted on this (say for Heroes or something) but to knobble *all* HD content in this way seems totally ludicrous. Let me know if they have/will see the light though (I am much too busy today to go digging - have to do some real work - bah!)

(P.S. Humax are just implementing what they need under contract to get the Freesat badge so no blame there).

@Paul Nicolson - Whilst not losing sleep over anything to do with TV :P I am annoyed since I bought my TV about 6 weeks before HD Ready/HDMI was announced (& it cost me 3 blimmin grand back in the day!) I am not due to update my TV again until about 2012 (having had a couple in quick succession since my Philips plasma conked out about a month after warranty ran out - Grrrrrr) so this is **REALLY** annoying. Luckily my HD-DVD player (yes I know!) and Xbox360 allow me to at least watch some HiDef content.

hi,can anybody tell me what extra cabling i will need to watch and record through this new humax reciever,and would joe bloggs be able to do it? cheers.

@Hugo - remember you need 2 satellite cable feeds (ie had to have had SKY+ installed previously) to fully make use of the box - recording 2 channels while watching a recorded program, etc.
Can't wait for this - fully expect this to move HD on far more than SKY HD and I reckon it won't belong before lots more free channels come on stream - Freeview owners wanting HD, you'll be waiting a very long time for HD to come to you down your aerial and you'll need a new box then anyway - bite the bullet and get one of these :D

I have been looking forward to this item hitting the shelves, which it seems to have at long last, even if only at Comet, as yet, if JL and Curry's web sites are anything to go by!As above, i'm waiting for an independent review on this box, and if it hits high enough marks in the praise worthy field, i'll go for it!

HDMI is digital & encrypted & so although you can go from component to HDMI through a suitable AV amp you can't easily go the other way. There are solutions, but they seem to be expensive (£150 plus) and I would imagine the performance is pretty poor - maybe a chance for some reviews here? :)

OK, techie virgin here. I already have Sky+ with the two cables installed. If I get a Freesat+ box do I have to get an extra double cable with another receiver thingie on the dish so that I can have Sky in one room and Freesat in another?

i recieved my humax from john lewis before xmas, very pleased but the remote has a short range and works intermitantly at 17 feet away, and now the hard drive has started clicking a bit poor for 10 days use but the unit is great and although not as good as sky still very good
